Press Release: VASA SPRINTS
The North American Vasa Sprints will be held on Sunday February 7th. They will be held in the Hickory Hills Meadows area from 1-5 pm. Junior competitors will start at 1pm and the adult races will begin at 3 pm. All races will be in the freestyle technique and the competition will involve double elimination in each age bracket.
The Vasa Sprints are held each year to initiate Vasa Week and to help skiers hone their speed skills for the 12, 27 or 50km races that they will compete in. It also allows considerable visibility for our area high school skiers prior to their state championships later in February.
There is no charge to compete in the sprints. Athletes can either register online at www.vasa.org or onsite starting at noon on February 7th. The Hickory Hills Meadows area is at 2000 Randolph Street immediately on the right as you enter the Hickory Hills Ski Complex. Parking is plentiful within a short walking distance from the races. A heated tent will be provided for both athletes and spectators comfort.
This year, Co-Race Directors, Roger Putman and Steve Brown, have designed a unique course that is both challenging and fun for all competitors For further information, you can call (231)938-4400.
