2017 VASA Newsletter #2
December 12, 2016

Holy Klister, Sister! Snow is imminent - at least according to the weather reports. Hopefully, we can start training on the real deal soon. Meanwhile, here are some tasty Vasa morsels to whet your skiing appetite:

The "We Ski" and "She Ski" programs, intended for beginner skiers and those of the fairer sex, are now being hosted by our pals at the Vasa Ski Club (VSC).

The Midwest Nordic Rendezvous at Timber Ridge Resort January 7-8

What happens when the North American Vasa (NAV), the Vasa Ski Club and the Professional Ski Instructors Association collaborate to host a weekend of instructional clinics for ALL AGES AND SKILL LEVELS? The Midwest Nordic Rendezvous, that's what! Timber Ridge will be the site for this exciting, first-ever nordic ski clinic event. We were able to get Greg Rhodes, Colorado National Team Nordic Specialist, to conduct a series of clinics for middle and high school skiers and adult beginners on Saturday and then four more clinics on Sunday for Michigan Cup skiers. Click here for the application.

Mudgett Trail Pioneer Award
DID YOU KNOW? NAV Board member Jim Heffner, a/k/a Old Trail Grunt, was given the 2016 Jim Mudgett Trail Pioneer Award at TART's fall dinner.    Dubbed a "longtime trail luminary", Jim was recognized for assisting in the development of the Vasa Pathway and all his hard work expanding and maintaining one of the most beautiful trail systems in the entire state of Michigan. Nicely done, Jim. You make us proud. Click here for more details

Vasa Collegiate Challenge.

Block S
The excitement just keeps on coming for Vasa 2017. I am pleased to announce the Vasa Collegiate Challenge. We know that, while many college games are played on ping pong tables with beverage cups, we at NAV want to encourage a slightly more healthy life style. So this year Vasa will offer special pricing for Nordic collegiate teams or individuals.

Male and female collegiate skiers will be judged on a cumulative time for both a 11km freestyle race and a 16km classic race. They will not only earn bragging rights but also unique trophies to take back home.

The University of Michigan will be our host team for Vasa 2017. (Hey, maybe the Wolverines will host a waxing clinic for their nordic ski pals in Columbus?)

Thanks for being a part of a great nordic skiing tradition known as the Vasa. Don't forget to register now on online, www.vasa.org, and to "Like" us on Facebook.

Think snow,

Mike Haley
