Vasa Newsletter  Vol. II, No. 1                     September 2017

Haley's Comments:

Greetings, Vasa Nation! Looks like you renewed your subscription to your primary source for all things North American Vasa! Some of us are still trying to transition from frivolous summer activities (like sailing) to nordic skiing-specific stuff like roller skiing, ski pole running and log rolling. I'll get there eventually.

Two sponsors are better than one! We welcome Chemical Bank as our newest sponsor. The folks at Chemical Bank are teaming up with our favorite beer guys and long-time title sponsor Short's Brewing Company to share the title sponsorship for Vasa 2018. An added bonus to Chemical Bank's financial commitment is their desire to "loan" us some of their employees to volunteer during race weekend. We definitely have an "interest" in that plan! OMG, I crack myself up....

Speaking of great sponsors, check this out, all you skiers who thought that Roscommon was only in Ireland and did not know about the Michigan one:

XCHQ Logo

Cross Country Ski Headquarters, located in Roscommon near Higgins Lake, has been a proud VASA sponsor since the 1980's. Founded in 1974 by Bob and Lynne Frye, XC Ski HQ has grown into a nationally recognized cross country ski area and shop, and was named a "Nordic Ski Mecca" by Outside Magazine in 2015. XC Ski HQ continues to support nordic ski racing in Michigan, especially among youth and college athletes.

Last year, Bob Frye was inducted to the Michigan Ski Hall of Fame for his contributions to the skiing industry. Bob and Lynne were recipients of a lifetime achievement award from the Michigan Cup Race Committee. Their daughter, Mariah Frye Colie and her husband Stu, are now the owners of XC Ski HQ. The tradition lives on.

Welcome back, Mariah and Stu.

OK, one last thing. In the "Save the Date" department:
