2018 Vasa Newsletter Vol.II, No. 4

Happy New Year, Vasa Nation!  With all this amazing snow that keeps on coming, I thought it prudent to remind you to utilize only the latest technology in removing the stuff from your driveway  (like me in the photo) so you can get out to the VASA TRAIL and SKI!  Wow, you know we are getting enough snow when our grooming reports are filled with tips on how not to freeze your tail off while skiing:

“Looks like another cold, snowy, beautiful day on the trail.  Time for a new layer of ultra cold condition wax on the skis and maybe a new layer of wool against the skin :).

Forecasts are calling for snow today and into tonight with temps warming into the low teens for tomorrow.  We will groom again early Friday ( tomorrow ) morning.”  (Excerpt from one of our intrepid groomers’ reports 1/5/18.  Thanks, Glen.)

Hey, there, Vasa friends.  We need to talk.  We all know that change  be difficult. (Ask anyone who has ever tried to change the 9V battery in a smoke alarm).  But if you have already registered for the Vasa, and now you realize you are going down the wrong path and you want to change your wave placement or event, you need to contact our Vasa Change Therapist, John Pflughoeft (johnpflughoeft@gmail.com). John will probably recommend a 1-step program for you that will set you on the right path again.

Email changes must go to John by Monday, February 5.

Vasa Nation Trivia Experts: Do you know what comes to the United States roughly once every TEN YEARS?  If you guessed campaign finance reform, gun control talk or a locust plague, you are overthinking the question.  The correct answer is: THE MASTERS WORLD CUP (MWC) which will be held in Minneapolis on January 19-26, 2018.  Our friend J.D. Downing, Editor of American Cross Country Skiers magazine, sent us a note recently, part of which appears below:

Master skiers are finding fewer and fewer events available to them worldwide. The MWC is exceptionally rare in that it was created for the motivated and semi-motivated master to go out and take part in an event directly with a 5-year peer group. This is as close as masters ever get to the intimate and age-specific championship events routinely offered to juniors and seniors.

I already know there are many Michgan skiers already planning to go to Minneapolis, but it will mean so much more if we can get another 20-40 Vasa masters to make the trip.

Thank you in advance for your help on this.

Best wishes this winter!

JD

Here is a quick reminder of upcoming local events, all of which will be held at Timber Ridge Resort:

January 6 - TART Winter Trails Day
January 6/7  -  Midwest Rendezvous
January 14, 21, 28  -  We Ski
February 9  -  Vasa Pasta
February 10 - 11  THE VASA!

Finally, it’s not too late to become a Vasa volunteer.  Anyone even slightly considering this should attend the Vasa Volunteer Dinner on January 21 at 5:30 p.m. at St. Francis High School.  Or you can simply contact Kristin Rylands at kristinrylands@gmail.com.

Well, if you read this far, you must have a lot of time on your hands.  Stay warm.   See you on the trails.
