2020 VASA Newsletter, Vol. IV, No. 3

Vasa Newsletter - Holiday Edition - Haley’s Comments

Vasa Nation:

You may want to mark January 6, 2020 on your calendar. That is the day of the next price increase for the Vasa 2020 ski events. There are already about 175 people ahead of you, so quit slacking and sign up NOW! If you are waiting to see how the trail conditions are shaping up, check out our website, www.vasa.org or the Vasa Trail Conditions site on Facebook. Nordicskiracer.com also includes Vasa trail reports.

Herewith is one of the latest such reports from Head Groomer Glen Rauth, reporting faithfully on behalf of TART Trails:

Date: 12/12/19

Time: 8:35 am

Snow Report: John Dee

Good Morning Badgers,

A little more snow is in the forecast today along with steady rising temps into the 30s. Yesterday’s bit of snow and wind helped to fill in the small low spots which go a long way in flattening out the trail. If conditions allow, we will be rolling / compacting the trail starting late this afternoon or early evening. There is also a bit of rain in the forecast for late tonight which, hopefully, will have little adverse effect on the trail. I will send out a report after we complete the task tonight.

I will be skiing today. Will you be?? Hope so :).

BTW, the “Badgers” in Glen’s report has nothing to do with lawyers giving witnesses a hard time in court, but rather these are the folks who have ponied up $100 to TART Trails to support trail grooming, and who get a grooming badge in return.

Hey, Vasa Nationalists: you gotta check out the Vasa 2020 first-ever-and-soon-to-be-annual Snowshoe race on Sunday of Vasa weekend.  Our intrepid Race Directors, John Roe and Todd LaBonte, have laid out a real “muscle building” 2-lap, 8 km course which should be loads of fun. Race it or just cruise it. The course will meander through virgin snow with the Vasa Trail in sight much of the way so you can bond with the skiers racing by.

The Vasa SkiFatalon is baaaack! This year Suttons Bay Bikes is stepping up as the Awards Sponsor for the SkiFatalon, which includes both the George Kuhn Half Marathon and the 42km Fat Bike races on Saturday, February 8. What’s new is that we now have team options (male, female, co-ed) for the event, in addition to the individual effort that we’ve always had. Put a team together, and roll a fattie! (Remember to ski responsibly.)

Speaking of insane events, enter the Triple Threat Challenge (ski & bike on Saturday & ski some more on Sunday), complete it in under 7 hours and you could go home with $300! Alternatively, go out on M-72 for 2 or 3 weeks and collect 3000 beer cans. Up to you, Bunkie.

For more info, you can always check out our website, www.vasa.org.

That’s all I have, Vasa Nation. Keep those cards and letters coming in. You know Gussie and I read every one.
