    Additional Information
      4:00 PM March 28, 2008
TART will be grooming the Vasa 5K, 10K and 25K loops tomorrow (Saturday) morning starting at 6:00AM with the snowmobiles and Ginzu’s. They will be just touching up the skating lanes. Last time they groomed (Thursday morning) the snow had softened enough by the time they had reached The Rock so that they could reset a shallow Classic track back to the Headwaters merge. If conditions allow they will try to reset them again tomorrow. There are some icy spots that they can’t do much with and the power line crossings where they are installing the new poles are getting very bare but there is still great skiing on most of the trail. The weather forecast calls for cold temperatures tonight with a high tomorrow around

    SPRING SKIING
Fresh grooming yesterday morning resulted in nice fast conditions. In the afternoon the sun had warmed the air into the low thirties and the skating lane had about an inch of loose corn snow on its surface. With well over a foot of snow remaining in most of the woods, the Vasa Trail is going to hold good skiing for another 10 days, maybe two weeks. The trail has great coverage and depth except getting narrow at the initial trailhead, and a couple of dirt power line crossings.

Last night at 6:00 PM the corn snow, that had loosened up during the day was refreezing and was extremely fast. Some of the climbs in the sunnier areas had deep skate marks in them which when the snow refreezes over night will present problems to skiers early today. By midday the temperatures should warm into the low thirties and the frozen corn will again loosen and skiing should be enjoyable for anyone starting there spring break today.

What remains of the tracks that were set several weeks ago, were shallow and had an icy glaze on the bottom. Classic skies have been using these tracks regularly and they actually are in fairly good shape even if they are shallow.
